Nathaniel P. Ford Sr. has a distinguished career that spans more than three decades, including serving as CEO of the Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA), the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA), and the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA).

Mr. Ford has built a legacy on organizational leadership, fiscal acumen, and innovation. He is a champion of multimodal transportation, walkable neighborhoods, public-private partnerships, and transit-oriented development.

He is an expert on industry best practices and has gained insight on international transportation issues by participating in trade/study missions to Australia, China, France, New Zealand, Russia, Cuba and Portugal.

Ford is Chairman of the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), the leading force in advancing public transportation. He is a member of the Transportation Research Board where he chairs the Diversity and Inclusion committee. In addition, Ford chairs the Transportation and Expressway Authority Membership of Florida (TEAMFL). He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce, Goodwill Industries and United Way of Northeast Florida. Ford is a 2015 graduate of Leadership Florida.

He has received numerous awards for his ambitious programs and initiatives over the span of his career to include: the 2017 Thomas G. Neusom Founder’s Leadership Award from the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials; the “White House Champions of Change” from the U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary, Anthony Foxx. He was also named “Ultimate CEO” by the Jacksonville Business Journal and received the Urban League’s Clanzel T. Brown Award for diversity programs. Under Ford’s leadership, the JTA was named the winner of the 2016 APTA Outstanding Public Transportation System Achievement Award.

His educational training includes an Executive MBA from the Davis School of Business at Jacksonville University and a Bachelor of Applied Science Degree in Organizational Leadership from Mercer University. He is a graduate of the Executive Development Consortium Program at Emory University and the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

Nat and his wife, Jannet are the proud parents of six children combined. Nat is also an avid golfer.
